Autorzy tekstów pokazują Z. Stiebera nie tylko jako uczonego, organizatora dużych przedsięwzięć badawczych i nauczyciela akademickiego, ale również jako otwartego i życzliwego człowieka. Istotną część książki stanowią dotychczas niepublikowane „Wspomnienia lwowskie” Zdzisława Stiebera, napisane w latach siedemdziesiątych XX wieku, które dotyczą działalności Profesora w Biurze Informacji i Propagandy Obszaru Lwowskiego AK w 1943 r. Ujawniają one wiele faktów nigdzie wcześniej nierejestrowanych, pokazują złożoność stosunków polsko-ukraińskich. Są jednostkowym świadectwem wydarzeń, które doczekały się już wielu opracowań i podlegały różnym interpretacjom.This volume offers a collection of articles about Zdzisław Stieber (1903–1980), an outstanding linguist, the author of many works significant for Slavic studies, the initiator and academic coordinator of the first volumes of “Atlas językowy kaszubszczyzny i dialektów sąsiednich” [A Linguistic Atlas of Kashubian and Neighbouring Dialects], and the founder of the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences. In their contributions, richly illustrated with archival documents, the authors show Z. Stieber not only as a scientist, organiser of large research projects and academic teacher, but also as an open and kind person. An important part of this volume are the previously unpublished “Wspomnienia lwowskie” [Lviv Memoirs] by Zdzisław Stieber, written in the 1970s, which concern his activities at the Information and Propaganda Bureau of the Lviv District of the Home Army (Biuro Informacji i Propagandy Obszaru Lwowskiego Armii Krajowej) in 1943. They reveal many previously unrecorded facts, and show the complexity of Polish-Ukrainian relations. They are a testimony of events which have been broadly analysed and have become subject to various interpretations.

Abstract

Tekst autorstwa Doroty K. Rembiszewskiej wyjaśnia genezę książki poświęconej Zdzisławowi Stieberowi. Podczas badań archiwalnych w Archiwum Polskiej Akademii Nauk w Warszawie odnalazła jego niepublikowane wspomnienia z okresu działalności w lwowskim oddziale Armii Krajowej. Publikacja stanowi zbiór świadectw osób, które znały Stiebera i współpracowały z nim naukowo. Powstała na jubileusz sześćdziesięciolecia Instytutu Slawistyki PAN, którego Stieber był założycielem. Autorka podkreśla trudności w pozyskaniu niektórych materiałów oraz dziękuje licznej grupie osób za ich wsparcie w realizacji książki.
In her note, Dorota K. Rembiszewska explains the genesis of this book, which is devoted to Zdzisław Stieber. In the course of her research in the Archives of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, she discovered Stieber’s unpublished memoirs from the period of his activity in the Lviv regional branch of the Home Army. The present volume is a collection of testimonies from people who knew Stieber and collaborated with him in the academic field, and it was conceived to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences, of which he was the founder. Rembiszewska emphasises difficulties in obtaining some of the materials and thanks a number of people for their support in this publishing project.
