Polacy między Donem, Dniestrem a Prutem. Biografie językowe

Abstract

Głównym bohaterem tej książki jest człowiek jako istota społeczna, zdolna do mówienia w różnych językach (mówienie jest procesem, który bywa zmienny i uzależniony od różnych czynników). Zaprezentowano w niej biografie językowe Polaków zamieszkałych na pograniczach między Donem, Dniestrem a Prutem. Na wielojęzyczność jednostki oraz zachowanie języka polskiego lub jego utratę miały wpływ – w kręgu rodziny: a) miejsce urodzenia (rodzina, najbliższe sąsiedztwo, liczebność grupy polskiej mówiącej odmianą języka polskiego); b) partner życiowy (w tym miejsce zamieszkania, język nauczania w szkołach ich dzieci); c) praktykowanie lub brak możliwości praktykowania religii w poszczególnych okresach; d) życie na emeryturze (język rozmów z dziećmi, wnukami), w kręgu sytuacji społecznej zaś: a) zmiana miejsca zamieszkania; b) zmiana polityczno-administracyjna; c) język lub języki administracji państwowej; d) język szkolnictwa; e) język religii (sfera poza domowa); f) język pracy / wojska / dalszej nauki. Monografia ta stanowi istotne nowum w badaniach wielojęzyczności oraz bilingwizmu polsko-obcego z udziałem różnych odmian polszczyzny.

The main protagonist of this study is the human person as a social being, able to speak different languages. Speaking is a process which tends to vary depending on various factors. This book presents language biographies of Poles living in the borderlands between the Don, the Dniester and the Prut Rivers. The results of the study indicate that the multilingualism of the speakers and the preservation or, conversely, loss of Polish were influenced by two types of factors: those related to the family circle and those related to the social situation. Considering the former, they include: (a) the place of birth (family, closest neighbourhood, the size of the Polish community speaking a variety of Polish); (b) life partner (including the place of residence, the language of instruction in their children’s schools); (c) religious practices or, conversely, not being able to pursue them in certain periods; (d) life in retirement (the language of communication with their children and grandchildren). In turn, the factors related to the social situation include: (a) change of residence; (b) political and administrative changes; (c) the language or languages of state administration; (d) the language of school education; (e) the language of religion (non-home sphere); (f) the language of work / the army / further education. This study makes a novel contribution to research on multilingualism and Polish-foreign bilingualism involving different varieties of Polish.
