Artykuły zawarte w niniejszym tomie powstały jako pokłosie dyskusji na międzynarodowej konferencji pod tym samym tytułem – „Niekonwencjonalne historie instytucji slawistycznych”, która odbyła się 23–25 października 2014 roku, w sześćdziesięciolecie Instytutu Slawistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk. Jej organizatorami byli: Instytut Slawistyki PAN, Fundacja Slawistyczna i Oddział Polskiego Towarzystwa Ludoznawczego w Warszawie. Rozpoczęta przez uczestników konferencji dyskusja dotyczy nie tylko oficjalnej historii slawistyki, lecz również stanowi próbę namysłu nad mechanizmami kształtowania się humanistyki, które nie zostały zapisane przez historię oficjalną, związkami między warunkami powstawania wiedzy i jej wytworami. Autorzy poruszają zagadnienia związane z funkcjonowaniem instytucji slawistycznych, kształtowaniem się statusu slawistyki jako dziedziny badań naukowych, jej aktualną sytuacją, jak też relacją między kształtem współczesnej slawistyki a organizacjami o charakterze nieinstytucjonalnym. Książka składa się czterech głównych części. Obszerna pierwsza część „Slawistyka w uścisku polityki” zawiera artykuły na temat politycznego tła powstawania instytucji slawistycznych i prowadzonych w nich badań, jak też politycznego uwikłania badaczy. Kolejna część – „Praktyki słowiańskie i niesłowiańskie. Poszukiwanie instytucji i ich programów” – poświęcona jest szeroko rozumianym instytucjom slawistycznym w świecie słowiańskim i niesłowiańskim oraz historycznej refleksji nad nimi. Przedostatnia część zatytułowana „Nonkonformiści, outsiderzy, osobowości. Poza schematami” zawiera teksty o uczonych idących pod prąd w swojej pracy i życiowych wyborach: Antoninie Obrębskiej-Jabłońskiej oraz Jerzemu Turonkowi. Tom kończy część poświęcona Instytutowi Slawistyki PAN – „Casus Instytutu Slawistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk”. Wszystkie teksty ukazują się zasadniczo w wersji złożonej do publikacji i zrecenzowanej w roku 2015.

The articles in this volume were created as a result of a discussion at an international conference under the same title – “Unconventional Histories of Institutions for Slavic Studies”, which was held on 23–25 October 2014, on the 60th anniversary of the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences. The event was organised by the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences, the Slavic Foundation and the Warsaw branch of the Polish Ethnological Society. The discussion initiated by the participants of the conference concerns not only the official history of Slavic studies – it is also an attempt to reflect on the mechanisms of shaping the humanities that were not recorded by official history, and the relationships between the conditions for the emergence of knowledge and its products. The authors raise issues related to the functioning of institutions for Slavic studies, the shaping of the status of Slavic studies as a field of scientific research, its current situation, as well as the relationship between the shape of contemporary Slavic studies and non-institutional organisations. The volume consists of four main parts. The first extensive section – “Slavic Studies in the Grip of Politics” – includes articles on the political background of the emergence of Slavic studies institutions and the research they conducted, as well as the political entanglement of researchers. The next part – “Slavic and Non-Slavic Practices: Searching for Institutions and Their Programmes” – is devoted to the broadly understood Slavic studies institutions in the Slavic and non-Slavic worlds as well as historical reflection on them. The part entitled “Nonconformists, Outsiders, Personalities: Apart from the Schemes” contains articles about scientists going against the current in their work and life choices. The volume ends with the section devoted to the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences – “The Case of the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences”. In general, all articles are published in the version submitted for publication and reviewed in 2015.
