Description: Seria „Prace Slawistyczne. Slavica” ukazuje się od 1977 roku. Jest najstarszą istniejącą serią w Instytucie Slawistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk, wydawaną najpierw przez Zakład Narodowy im. Ossolińskich, następnie od 1991 roku przez nowo powstałe wydawnictwo IS PAN (Slawistyczny Ośrodek Wydawniczy). W serii dominują monografie językoznawcze, ale publikowane są również prace dotyczące badań literackich. W latach 1977–2025 ukazało się 157 tomów serii. Od 2021 roku seria jest indeksowana w bazie SCOPUS.Appearing since 1977, the series Prace Slawistyczne. Slavica [Monographs in Slavic Studies. Slavica] is the longest-running series of the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences, initially published by the Ossoliński National Institute (Ossolineum), and then since 1991 by the newly-established ISS PAS publishing house (SOW). The series brings together monographs predominantly in linguistics but also in literary studies. 157 volumes appeared between 1977 and 2025. Description: „Testimonia najdawniejszych dziejów Słowian” od blisko pięćdziesięciu lat są opracowywane w Instytucie Slawistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk. Pomysł opracowania źródeł do najdawniejszych dziejów Słowian narodził się w trakcie prac nad „Słownikiem starożytności słowiańskich”. Stanowią zbiór ekscerptów z dzieł autorów greckich/bizantyńskich („Seria grecka”) i łacińskich („Seria łacińska”), opisujących różne aspekty dawnych społeczeństw słowiańskich, opartych na najlepszych edycjach krytycznych. Każdy tekst jest publikowany w języku oryginału z polskim przekładem. Ekscerpty są poprzedzone wstępem krytycznym przedstawiającym autora źródła albo środowisko jego powstania oraz opatrzone wyczerpującymi komentarzami rzeczowymi. „Serię łacińską” otwiera tom poświęcony źródłom starożytnym, opublikowany w 2016 roku.“Testimonia najdawniejszych dziejów Słowian” [Testimonies of the Earliest History of the Slavs], as an editorial project, has been pursued at the Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences for almost fifty years. The idea of a collection of the earliest source texts concerning the Slavs was born in the course of work on “Słownik starożytności słowiańskich” [A Lexicon of Slavic Antiquities]. The project was conceived as a collection of excerpts from writings by Greek/Byzantine (“Greek Series”) and Latin (“Latin Series”) authors describing different aspects of early Slavic societies (basing on the best critical editions). Each text is published both in the original language version and in Polish translation; the excerpts are accompanied by critical introductions presenting their authors or the milieu of their origin, and by extensive historical comments. The “Latin Series” opens with a volume devoted to ancient sources, published in 2016.Series, quae “Testimonia veterum historiae Slavorum” inscribitur, per circa quinquaginta annos praeparata est in Instituto Slavisticae Academiae Scientiarum Polonicae. Idea fontium praeparandi ad vetustissimam historiam Slavorum spectantium nata est inter labores super “Lexiconem Antiquitatis Slavorum”. Series est collectio nostra excerptorum ex operibus auctorum Graecorum nec non Byzantinorum (series Graeca) vel Latinorum (series Latina), qui varias quaestiones vitae socialis societatum Slavorum vetustissimorum descripserunt, utendo editiones criticas optimas. Quilibet textus in lingua originali publicatus est cum translatione Polonica, commentariis exhaustis instructus (inter alia introductio, quae auctorem fontis, originemquem eius valde tractat). Series Latina initiata est cum volumine, quod fontibus Antiquibus devotum est et in Anno 2016 est publicatum.

Abstract

W tomie zebrano ekscerpty pism autorów rzymskich z okresu przełomu er dotyczące Słowian oraz szerzej – rzymskiej geografii Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej. Ekscerpty – którym towarzyszą informacje o ich autorach i dziełach, z których pochodzą, włączając w to przegląd rękopisów, wydań i analiz krytycznych – podano w oryginale i polskim tłumaczeniu. Drugą część książki stanowi komentarz historiograficzny do przedstawionych źródeł w formie geograficznego leksykonu Barbaricum: północnej, środkowej i wschodniej Europy z przyległymi częściami Azji. W leksykonie omówiono ponad 1000 starożytnych etno- i toponimów.
The volume presents excerpts from writings by Ancient Roman authors of the turn of the Christian era which concern Slavs as well as, more generally, the Ancient Roman geography of Central-Eastern Europe. Each excerpt – accompanied by a note about its author and the work from which it originates, including an overview of the text’s manuscripts, editions and critical studies – is presented in its Latin original as well as in Polish translation. The second part of the book is devoted to historiographical commentary to the excerpted sources and comprises a geographical lexicon of the Barbaricum: the Northern, Central and Eastern Europe with adjacent Asian territories. Presented and discussed in it are over 1.000 Ancient ethno- and toponyms.
In hoc volumine excerpta ex operibus auctorum Romanorum a I s. a. Chr. n. ad V s. p. Chr. n. quae cum discussione scientifica de Slavorum origine nec non situ moribusque coniuncta sunt, congregantur. Publicata sunt excerpta, quae in lingua Latina cum translatione Polonica dantur, providentur commentariis de auctoribus et operibus, ex quibus excerpta extraha sunt cum sagacissima descriptione manuscriptorum, editionum et studiorum. Pars secunda tomi commentariis historiographiciis ad fontes devota est et in lexiconis forma geographiam Europae Borealis et Orientalis nec non Asiae Interioris constituit. Plus quam mille definitiones antiquae in Lexicono nostro descriptae sunt.
